Biography
Annelies Deweerdt is a Belgian soprano with a passion for challenging conventions in classical music. Raised in the rolling hills of the Flemish Ardennes, she recently completed her Bachelor in Classical Voice and Performance at the Fontys Academy of the Arts in Tilburg. She is currently furthering her vocal studies in the Master’s program at the Royal Conservatory of Mons under the guidance of Axel Everaert.
On stage, Annelies has embodied a broad range of roles — from Nerone (L’Incoronazione di Poppea) and Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte), to Lucy (The Telephone) and the First Witch (Dido and Aeneas). Her artistic curiosity has led to collaborations with ensembles and companies such as Barokorkest Florilegium Musicum, Club Lam, Het Concreet, and Close Opera, where she explores the meeting point between baroque tradition, contemporary theatre, and experimental sound.
Annelies is driven by a desire to make classical vocal music more inclusive and engaging, with a special focus on queer visibility and storytelling. She is constantly in search of unexpected spaces, daring formats, and untold stories to sing them into being.
